Apollo USB Modes

The Goddard Space Flight Center produced a plastic ‘cheat sheet’ of Apollo Unified S-Band modes – these were used at the Ops Console at Honeysuckle.

John Saxon writes, “The card was produced specially for the J missions.” It is dated May 1971.

The USB modes “cheat sheets” are a little larger than a credit card.

John writes, “This is more or less the info on the GSFC cheat sheets but (in my opinion) a more readable form. The diagrams were drawn by Neil Sandford and posted in the HOD (Honeysuckle Ops Directives).”

Downlink Signal Spectra

During Apollo 15 EVA 3, Neil Sandford took these Polaroid photos of the spectra of various configurations – they give a hint of the complexity of the USB downlink.
