Okudas -- Star Trek
Hello from Los Angeles!
Neither my wife, Denise, nor I had the privilege of working on
Apollo, but we both grew up during those heady times. On
July 20, 1969, both of us (in different parts of the world) were
united with so much of humankind in sharing the extraordinary
events of that day. We thank everyone at the Honeysuckle
Creek station, not only for your vital role in supporting the
Apollo 11 mission, but also for your part in letting us
participate vicariously in that grand adventure. Your
efforts made us feel like we were right there with Armstrong and
Aldrin, standing on the Sea of Tranquility.
Past celebrations of this auspicious anniversary may have been
somewhat subdued because there was something of a sense that we
were looking backward, rather than forward. Now, thanks to
NASA's new Vision for Space Exploration, we can celebrate Project
Apollo as an amazing first step in our journey into space.
