Fresnedillas location

location map

The MSFN Apollo station was about 50km west of Madrid, and about 8km ENE of the (Robledo) Madrid DSN station.

The Apollo wing station was DSS-61 at Robledo.

Today, the Robledo station (Madrid Deep Space Communications Complex) is one of the three main DSN complexes. It houses DSS-61, DSS-63, DSS-66 (the old MSFN antennas from Fresnedillas), plus the new 34 metre antennas.

INTA location map

This is a 1985 INTA map that they gave to visitors to point out the way to get to the Fresnedillas or Robledo or ESA stations. (INTA is the Spanish space agency.)

Bill Wood says that it was about 50 or 60 km out to the DSN stations.
